National Identity of Muslims

Islam is the identity of a Muslim.  However, this is one of the much debated subjects in countries where Muslims live as minorities.  Muslims living in non-Muslim countries are accused of being unpatriotic and opportunistic.  On one hand one segment of Muslims adopt an extremist principle that allegiance of faith to a non-Muslim country is Haram.

About twenty years ago when I was looking after Bahrain covering Saudi Arabia too for Dubai based daily Gulf News, Islamic scholar Dr Zakir Naik visited  our office.

I have heard about him and watched his thought provoking speeches on Islam and comparative religion from modern perspective, yet never had an opportunity to meet him. Thus my curiosity to meet him.

சில உயிரினங்கள் காலப் போக்கில் வேறு உயிரினமாக வளர்ச்சி பெற்று வந்தன. பல கோடி ஆண்டுகளில் குரங்கு என்ற இனமாக ஆனது. அதன் பின்னர் பல கோடி ஆண்டுகளுக்குப் பின் குரங்கு பரிணாம வளர்ச்சி பெற்று மனிதன் என்ற படைப்பு உருவானது என்பது தான் டார்வினின் கொள்கை!

What is the correct interpretation of Christianity to follow?

The entire Bible is man's interpretation, thus making it harder to believe in and follow. Christianity is completely based on the interpretation of the disciples of Jesus. For the Gospels are titled "The Gospel According to Mathew" or "The Gospel According to Mark". Which raises a huge discrepancy, we have no proof these men were writing while these things were happening. So if they did in fact write at all it was after everything transpired. This raises an authenticity issue, because we have no real way of knowing if they made any mistakes at all. Since the Gospels are very well written in the sense they give much detail it is hard to believe they could recall such events after in great detail. For instance we see in my previous article that Mark 16:9-20 is considered a fabrication, for it is not among the early transcripts. Nor does it fit the way Mark wrote in the rest of the Gospel. This makes it even harder to believe they had the ability to recall events in great detail.

The origins of the Sri Lankan Moors is a matter that has aroused much controversy in academic circles. While it is generally believed that the Moors are descended from Arabian merchants who espoused local women, there are those historians who continue to argue that the Moors originally hailed from South India, mainly on the basis of their spoken language – Tamil. The present article proposes to show that the nucleus of the Moorish community comprises the descendants of Arabian settlers hailing from Iraq and the Arabian peninsula who arrived in the country during the medieval period. Oral tradition, genealogical records, anthropological details and literary, linguistic and epigraphic evidence will be adduced to support this view.
